Use cases and practical choices

Extract a training chapter, a customer-facing manual excerpt, an agenda or selected report tables. Selection operates on whole pages, not paragraphs inside a page. For an image of a small page region, render the page as an image and crop it afterward.

Extract a page range into one new PDF

Page numbers start at 1. Enter 1-3, 5 to keep the first three pages and page five in one output PDF. This is useful for sharing a chapter or selected report pages. Leaving the range empty keeps all pages. The tool reads the first PDF in the file queue.

How to split a PDF

  1. Open one PDF and check its actual page count in a viewer. The cover counts as page 1; printed document labels may not match file positions.
  2. Enter page numbers separated by commas and ranges separated by hyphens, for example 1-3, 5. Leaving the range empty keeps all pages.
  3. To change selected-page order, enter the desired sequence such as 5, 1-3. Repeated page selections are deduplicated; check invalid or out-of-range entries yourself.
  4. Extract, download and verify page count and order. Enter a single number for one page. The tool does not automatically create a separate PDF for every page.

Split PDF FAQ

What exactly does 1-3, 5 produce?

It creates one four-page PDF containing input pages 1, 2, 3 and 5 in that order. Numbers refer to positions in the file, starting at 1, rather than printed page labels. Covers, contents pages and inserts can shift the position of a report chapter.

Can I reorder selections or duplicate a page?

Selection order is respected: 5, 1-3 places page 5 before pages 1 through 3. Repeated page numbers are deduplicated, so 1, 1 does not create two copies. The tool does not understand chapter headings or automatically repair an invalid or out-of-range selection.

Does extracting pages securely remove unwanted information?

This creates a new document from selected pages; it is not a redaction or PDF-sanitization tool. It does not inspect whether selected pages still contain information that should not be shared. Review the whole output when distributing an excerpt and retain the source for comparison.

Why did entering printed page 10 select the wrong page?

A printed label such as “10” may differ from the tenth page in the file because covers and front matter also occupy positions. Use a PDF viewer to identify the actual file position before entering the range, then open and check the extracted result.
